Aligarh. The history of Uttar Pradesh during this decade has been full of political murders -- be it BSP MLA Raju Pal, BJP MLA Nirbhay Sharma, BJP MLA Krishnanad Rai. And now former BJP MLA Malkhan Singh was killed on Monday evening in Aligarh in the same manner as the other three MLAs.

Malkhan Singh, currently district president Rashtriya Lok Dal, was sitting outside his house in Gyan Sarovar colony at 5:30 pm on Monday. He was surrounded by three bodyguards, including two police gunners.

Few minutes later, a car stopped at the gate of his house. A group of armed gunmen got off the car and began firing with semi-automatic weapons dropping Malkhan Singh's entire security detail in the first flurry of shots.

Singh tried to save himself by running inside the house. The assailants followed him and shot him repeatedly, killing him on the spot. After murdering Singh, they fled in the same car, which was later found abandoned a few hundred paces away.

Apart from Malkhan Singh, his police gunner Sunil Singh was also killed in the attack while the other gunner Satyaveer and Malkhan's brother-in-law Prempal Singh were seriously injured and were admitted in the Aligarh Medical College.

According to post-mortem report, 10-11 bullets had hit Malkhan Singh, out of which one was hit in his head.

According to Aligarh SP SK Verma, the brother of Malkhan Singh had filed a named complaint against the former Aligarh Zila Panchayat chairman Tejvir Singh Guddu and five others for planning this murder in some post-poll rivalry.

He said the police had received reports that several high-end criminals had been involved in the attack, which was conducted with deadly precision, using semi-automatic weapons and "disposable" country-made pistols.

Few hours after the murder, the police claimed to have arrested one assailant Amit Kumar who had been named by the deceased's brother in the FIR filed in police station Quarsi of Aligarh while the search is on for the remaining accused.
