IT software park in Agra makes progress

New Delhi/Agra. After almost a decade of remaining buried in red tape, the Agra Software Technology Park may get off the ground. A team of Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) officials will visit Agra on February 24 and 25 to mark the land for the parks. Apart from Agra, STPs in two other towns of UP—Varanasi and Moradabad—are on the cards this year.
According to STPI sources, an initial provision of Rs 4.25 crore has been made by the UP Electronics Corporation Ltd for establishing the Agra STP, of which Rs 1 crore will be spent on the purchase of 3 acres of land in Agra. Another Rs 1 crore has been earmarked for the purchase of equipment and the development of requisite technology. Rs 2.20 crore has been set aside for the construction of the STP in 3,000 square metres, while the remaining Rs 44 lakh has been marked for contingencies.
According to sources, the STPI had received a proposal from the Agra Development Authority to setup the park on the Fatehabad Road where it had ample land to spare. Apart from these, a few other places on the Agra-Delhi road had also been proposed for the park but now the STPI has settled on the Fatehabad Road site, which, it has deemed perfect for the park.
A team of STPI officials, led by its director SK Agarwal is expected to arrive in Agra on a two-day visit starting on February 24 to give the site a final approval.
Shashikant Sharma, vice-chairman, ADA, said the ADA had already reserved the site on Fatehabad road for STPI and there was no more land left in the town that was suitable for the purpose, so STPI team’s visit should concentrate on finalizing this single site that was available for the park.
He said the site had been reserved for the park from the past decade and at such a later stage, it was not possible for the ADA to turn up with another site for the park, and the park would have to be setup on the proposed site only.
Notably, the Agra administration had earlier suggested that the park be developed inside the existing Export Promotion Industrial Park of the UP State Industrial Development Corporation where the corporation already had a built-up structure on a 5-acre plot though the site was not approved by STPI.
