UP firm to invest Rs. 82 cr. for power distribution in Agra

AGRA, 17 JAN. Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd.(DVVNL), one of the four power majors of UP, is now gearing up to take up its business “professionally” through better utilization of existing resources and employing improved technology. On Saturday, the company launched its official websiteand at the same time, introduced an 82.5 crore Power Augmentation project to revamp the power distribution in Agra town.
Engaged in the business of distribution and supply of electricity under Agra, Jhansi and Kanpur Zone after being formed out of UP Power Corporation Limited just over a year back, the company has decided to bring about a level of transparency in its management and modus operandi by bringing most of its business ‘online’.
On Saturday, DVVNL launched its official website “www.dvvnl.com” to facilitate its powerconsumers by making almost all information on DVVNL easily available. Addressing the assembly of “Commercially importantcustomers” at hotel Holiday Inn in Agra on theoccasion of the website’s launch by Agra Member of Parliament and film star Raj Babbar, DVVNL Managing Director Shyamalendu Niyogi said that professionalism is the need of the day in every business and when it comes to large corporations like DVVNL, it becomes imperative, in view of the tough competition in fray.
He said that the launch of this website is the first step for DVVNL in establishing a professional approach towards business as there are other companies standing in line to grab hold of the huge business potential in the UP power sector and no company could survive for long by neglecting its consumer base.
On this occasion, Mr. Niyogi also announced a “Power Augmentation Project” for Agra town to be implementedunder the Accelerated Power Development & ReformsProgramme (APDRP) of the Central Power ResearchInstitute (CPRI) at the cost of Rs. 82.5 crores, which would include the complete makeover of the power distribution system in the old city, minimizing powercuts & distribution losses, besides the expansion of power projects in the newly developed industrial areaaround the town.
He said that the project has alreadybeen taken up by the “steering committee” for discussion and hopefully, it shall be passed within a month, enabling DVVNL to complete the power reforms in Agra within the current year. Later, talking to UNN, KripalSingh, General Manager, DVVNL said that the new website has been launched to facilitate the power consumers and reducing the “paperwork” in the company.He said that besides interconnecting all DVVNLemployees through an integrated “webmail” network, the line loss statements shall also be published online through the website for every employee to view and self-evaluate his work-share in the organization.
