Indian Innovation puts mobile companies on run for their money.

AGRA, 9 Nov. Take the entire world’s technology on one side and one Indian “Jugaad” (contraption) on the other and the balance shall tip over towards India. An Indian jugaad costing barely Rs. 20 has put the multinational mobile manufacturers on the run for their money on Diwali.
Marketed with many names like “Ghost”, “V-Power” & “Magic”, this ingeniously manufactured itsy-bitsy bit of hardware accommodating two SIMs at the same time, has enabled people to keep two mobile numbers without having to buy two handsets, bringing the mobile market to a standstill.
As the number of GSM service providers in all telecom circles has increased manifolds in the past few years, the passion of keeping two mobile numbers also increased among the mobile users, but this hobby also meant considerable expenditure on keeping two mobile phones and the introduction of this chip has obliterated the need of keeping a pair of mobile sets.
When the mobile manufacturers are revolutionizing the handset market by introducing new features & cheaper handsets to widen their user base, the “dual-sim” adapter is all set to destroy their multiple-mobile user market, which may result in the introduction of this facility as a standard feature in new handsets.
Usable in almost all popular models of GSM mobile handsets, the Dual SIM Adapter can automatically select one out of the two plugged in SIMs after power on and the second SIM can be interchanged by merely pressing #3370# on select mobile sets while in any other handset, the second card can be used synchronously by setting it on call divert to the first SIM.
This adapter has been launched in the entire country at a time when the handset companies were expecting a bumper sale of GSM based mobile handsets on the occasion of Diwali and the easy availability of this gadget has resulted in a considerable drop in handset sales.
Vikas Jain, a Samsung dealer in Agra claims that he’s selling at least 2-3 such dual SIM adapters for every handset sold, as most people who want to keep two mobile numbers now prefer this gadget, forcing him to keep a good stock of these chips besides handsets, though it has not caused any damage to the CDMA handset sales, which do not use SIMs.
