Security at Taj Mahal upgraded

Agra. Following a new terrorist threat to blow up the Taj Mahal, the monument has finally received its much-awaited external security cover.

Early risers on Monday morning in the Tajganj area of Agra saw all the roads leading to the Taj Mahal being guarded by AK-47 toting policemen and
fresh barricades installed 100 meters ahead of the eastern gate of the monument, being protected by yet another armed contingent of UP Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC).
According to local police sources, new posts for 755 police personnel, including over 100 inspectors and sub-inspectors have been created in Agra recently, especially for the security of the Taj Mahal.
A significant part of this newly created police force has already been deployed in the area surrounding the monument, which included all the three gates and the roads leading to these gates, where a large number of PAC personnel had been deployed.
Commenting on this huge augmentation in the Taj security by the local police, Agra Superintendent of Police Gulab Singh said that this security upgradation of the Taj Mahal had been in the original security plan submitted by the UP police in the Supreme Court that delegated the internal security cordon to the Central Industrial Security Force.
The outer security shall be maintained by an elite division of the local police, specially trained for anti-terrorist operations.
He said that the external security of the monument had now been taken over by the UP police and this arrangement shall continue in coordination with the CISF for which, the Agra Senior Superintendent of Police shall be the coordinating officer.
