Police mum wills property to Agra police

Agra. On Saturday, the entire police force of Agra turned up for the funeral of an elderly lady. Affectionately named, 'Police Mother', Kaneeza Begum had had the force eating out of her hands for the past twenty-five years. There was another important reason.

She had willed her entire property to the Agra Police, even insisting that her house be converted into a police station.While the police had every reason to be solemnly happy at the trust she bestowed on them, her sons probably felt otherwise.

In her will, the begum restrained her two sons from lending their shoulder to her coffin, leaving express instructions for the senior police officials to personally transport her body to the graveyard.

Obeying the "will" in its entirety, all senior officials of Agra including Senior Superintendent of Police Rajiv Krishna and Superintendent of Police Agra City Gulab Singh attend ed the funeral that was performed with a full guard of honour. They then took possession of the property.

Relating the story that led to a simple Muslim woman being bestowed the title of "Police Mother", Agra SP Gulab Singh said that she had been given this title about 25 years back by then Dy Inspector General of Police SK Mukherjee after she donated her blood to save the lives of three policemen critically injured in an encounter.

Since then, Kaneeza Begum had the privilege of summoning a police vehicle whenever she wanted to meet a police official and she was a regular visitor at the police headquarters.She would breeze in with a bag full of toffees and dole it out generously, along with comfort and advice to dispirited policemen.
Police are likely to construct the new police station for the New Agra area in the house left by Kaneeza Begum.

On Wednesday, the British government 'de-recognized' the Gaddafi government and decided that it was in the interest of democracy to recognize the Libyan rebels as the only legal representative of the Libyan people. Immediately after that, the British Police entered the Libyan embassy in London and forced the remaining Libyan diplomats out of UK. Faced with the task of developing environment-friendly technology for industry due to guidelines issued by the Supreme Court, entrepreneurs in Agra are realising the cost-effective potential of such technologies and innovations. Govardhan Udyog is one such unit which plans to use a non-conventional raw material, cowdung, to produce particle board and pharmaceutical products. The unit was inaugurated this week on the Agra-Delhi national highway near the Mathura refinery, about 55 km from Agra. Company sources said the basic raw material used in the manufacture of particle board will be cow dung. This will perhaps make it the first particle board manufacturing facility using cowdung as the raw material.
