Imitating neighbour, boy hangs himself to death

Agra. A childhood fantasy to experience the adventure of hanging with a noose around the neck after watching a neighbour commit suicide by hanging, cost a kid his life in Agra on Monday.

According to Agra police sources, eight-year old Arun, the youngest son of Dinesh Chandra Sharma, a resident of Itmad-ud-Daullah was found hanging from a hook around the ceiling, with a noose made from his mother's saree in his neck at about 12 noon on Monday.

By the time he was rushed to a nearby hospital, he had already died.

According to the neighbours of Dinesh Sharma, a woman had committed suicide by hanging from the roof with her saree, a few weeks back and Arun had very closely watched the woman's body hanging from the ceiling before it was finally taken down by the police.

Ever since the kid watched the dead body hanging from the hook, it became a part of his childhood games to hang his dolls from the ceiling with his mother's saree and watch them hanging with a noose in their necks.

On Monday too, Arun had returned from school at about 11 am and had been left alone in the house playing with his doll while his father and two elder brothers had gone to their shop.

When Dinesh Sharma returned from the shop at about 12 noon for lunch, he was shocked to find Arun hanging by the neck from the roof, already dead from strangulation.

He however, refused to handover the body to the police for the post-mortem and the body was cremated before the police came.

Faced with the task of developing environment-friendly technology for industry due to guidelines issued by the Supreme Court, entrepreneurs in Agra are realising the cost-effective potential of such technologies and innovations. Govardhan Udyog is one such unit which plans to use a non-conventional raw material, cowdung, to produce particle board and pharmaceutical products.
