RLD Minister declares halla bol against UP CM

Agra. Barely a couple of days before his arrival in Agra for probably the largest public meeting of his current tenure, UP Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has come close to being ditched by his principal ally in the Government - Rashtriya Lok Dal - with a Minister in his Cabinet declaring an open feud against him.

On Thursday, Minister of State for Food Processing in the Mulayam Singh Government from the RLD quota Babulal held an open meeting and dharna at the Agra Collectorate with thousands of his supporters and declared a halla bol against the State Government, claiming that the RLD quota ministers were being sidelined by the Chief Minister.

He also alleged that they were being subjected to disgrace by the local administration of their constituency despite the fact that the RLD was the principal ally and "king maker" of the State Government whose support was crucial for the government to remain in power.

Announcing his objection to the "Yadav-centric" politics of the State Government, Babulal said that even in the police service, the Yadav community dominated the force as the recruitments camps were only being held in those areas where the Yadav community ruled the roost.

He claimed that the State Government was adopting double policy when it came to the RLD ministers. While the State Government had taken back all the criminal cases registered against Raja Bhaiya as well as the Samajwadi Party workers who had set a police station on fire in Agra, he was being harassed in a criminal case since 1990. Despite his requests to the Chief Minister, the cases had not been expunged.

According to the minister, ever since he had declared to hold the meeting at Collectorate against the State Government, he was being pressurised by the local administration to pull back his plan. He said that over the past four years, his supporters' premises were being raided, their trucks and other vehicles were being seized by the police without any reason indicating the oppressive politics played by Mulayam Singh Yadav.

He said that Mulayam Singh had claimed that he was a well-wisher of the farmers and a follower of the ideology of Charan Singh but in fact, he was selling off the valuable agricultural land to industrialists in the name of hi-tech cities and that too, at a price much lower than the market price.

He said that he had tried to contact the Chief Minister several times to inform him of the way the local administration in Agra was maltreating the RLD supporters but it seems that his complaints fell on deaf ears and no action was taken against the administrative and police officials of Agra.

He said that he had now served a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Agra administration to address his woes and if the State Government did not take action on his memorandum immediately, he shall be forced to sit on a hunger-strike against the State Government's atrocities from Saturday.
