Kamna back in husband's clutches, parents cry foul

Agra. It is one of the worst nightmare come true for a woman of 21. Thrice abducted from her home, raped and tortured by so-called journalists for almost two years, and to top it all broadcast nude all over Agra by two cable networks, former Miss Agra Kamna Chowdhary is still awaiting justice to take its rightful course.

The cable operators named in the FIR filed by the Kamna's father are still roaming freely. To make matters worse, almost a month after Kamna Chowdhary was sent to Women's Home by the UP Commission for Women, the Agra District Judge unceremoniously packed her off with her so called husband, Hemant, on Saturday after recording her statement, despite objections raised by the victim's family.
Taking serious note of the court's order to send Kamna back to her tormentors, the victim's family is now planning to file a contempt proceeding against the Agra district authorities and other judicial officials for interfering in a matter that was subjudice before the Supreme Court.
Talking to The Pioneer, Dr RS Chowdhary, the victim's father said that for the past one month of Kamna's stay in the Home, they had been running from pillar to post to secure permission to visit their daughter but to no avail. Each time they met some official, they were asked to meet someone else and it went on until Kamna was sent away with Hemant by the court.
He insisted that Kamna was tortured by her captors for two years and then again brutalised at the Women's Home.He alleged that while her tormenters were allowed to meet her without any problem, her own family members were kept at bay.
Her constant meeting with them had reportedly instilled a fear in Kamna that Hemant and his cronies were too powerful and nobody would come to her rescue, which made her agree to go with Hemant as per the Court order.
Notably, the issue of former Miss Agra Kamna Chowdhary had come into light when Kamna's father Dr RS Chowdhary had filed a habeas corpus petition with the Supreme Court alleging that his daughter had been abducted from his home by some local cable TV people who had raped her and were keeping her in captivity with the aid of the Agra police in the guise of "press".
The Supreme Court had issued a notice to the Agra administration on this issue on December 9 2005 but while the administration was still to file a reply to the notice, two cable networks of Agra - Moon and Sea broadcasted her nude footage, finally breaking down the girl's resolve to free herself from the captivity of the so-called "media men".
Soon after Dr Chowdhary filed an FIR against the two cable networks on December 16 2005 for broadcasting his daughter's nude images, the girl's family started receiving threats and are being pressurised to take back the FIR against these networks.
But the Agra administration is still trudging along the same weather-beat line of investigation. So far they have not made any arrests in the case, almost a month after the FIR was filed by the victim's father Dr R S Chowdhary.
According to Mr Rajiv Krishna, the Senior Superintendent of Police in Agra, a Deputy Superintendent of Police was investigating the case and tapes of the broadcast have been sought from the cable operators which are yet to arrive and till these tapes and the veracity of the charges made by the girl's father are verified, no arrests can be made in the case.
