Mayawati to confront Congress

Agra. The possibility of a forthcoming Congress-BSP tie-up in the UP Assembly elections is fast coming to an end with the BSP supremo Mayawati planning to confront the Congress President Sonia Gandhi with an evidence of the double game played by the Congress against the BSP in the Uttarakhand parliamentary by-polls elections.

According to the party sources, the reports of back-stabbing in the party had been reaching the BSP supremo for quite some time but the party was spurred into action when it faced a massive setback in the Tehri parliamentary by-polls with its candidate Nasimuddin withdrawing his name from the elections at the last moment.

Talking to The Pioneer, a senior BSP leader in Agra said that the first axe for this setback has fallen on the party's State coordinator of Uttarakhand and member of UP legislative council (MLC) Dharma Prakash Bhartiya who was sacked by the party supreme on Friday.

Bhartiya, who had only recently been appointed as the coordinator of the BSP for Uttaranchal has been charged for "colluding" with the Congress candidate Vijay Bahuguna to ensure BSP's defeat in the by-polls as well as the forthcoming Assembly elections.

According to the BSP leader, Bhartiya had recommended the Nasimuddin's name as a BSP candidate for the by-polls, when he was in fact, a "congress agent" who withdrew his nomination at the very last moment, stranding the party with no candidate in the fray.

He said that the party had concrete evidence that Bhartiya had been paid Rs 50 lakh to effect this operation and he had also earned several lakh for approving several "defective" candidates for the forthcoming Uttarakhand Assembly polls who could ditch the party in mid-way to support the Congress.

He said that Bhartiya's suspension from the party was announced by the BSP General Secretary Nasimuddin Siddiqi in a meeting held in Agra on Friday, setting up a three member committee that shall investigate his actions in Uttarakhand and formally advise an action against him.
