Seven years after an Etah youth was allegedly robbed of his kidney at the Aligarh Medical College, the Aligarh district court has ordered an FIR to be filed against six doctors including two surgeons of the medical college in the case.

Talking to The Pioneer, Rampal Singh, Inspector-in-charge, Civil Lines Police Station, Aligarh said that Satyabhan Singh Chauhan, a resident of Kuthila Layakpur village in Etah was injured in a bus accident on February 13, 2000 in Atroli town of Aligarh.

He was admitted in a nearby private hospital where it was diagnosed that he had a burst abdominal diaphragm. He was referred to the Aligarh Medical College where he was subjected to an emergency operation and discharged after a few days.

About a year back, Satyabhan had serious pain in his abdomen following which he got an ultrasound of his abdomen conducted and was shocked to find that he was short of his left kidney.

He remembered that he was operated in the Aligarh Medical College after an accident. The Civil Lines police station refused to file a FIR on the grounds of it being time barred.

But now a FIR has been registered under Sections 326, 420 and 468 IPC against six doctors of the medical college, including two surgeons, who had been involved in the treatment of Satyabhan under the directions of the Aligarh District Court.

He said the veracity of the charges made by Satyabhan was still being investigated by the police and if necessary the guilty may be arrested.

Later, commenting on the issue, Dr Pradeep Kumar, chairman, Indian Medical Association, Aligarh chapter, said this incident was too old to remember specifically but it was possible that either Satyabhan was born with one kidney or his kidney had been damaged in the accident and was removed by the doctors during the emergency operation that saved his life.

He urged doctors to exercise more caution while conducting emergency operations.
