Local brands ready to challenge malls in Agra

New Delhi/ Agra. The rising popularity of the newly-established shopping malls of Agra has propelled the local consumer brand leaders into a rat race to acquire space in these malls.

The Bachoomal Group, one of the biggest family-run garment retail store chains of the town, has already established its presence in a number of shopping malls in Agra as well as the Highway Plaza in Mathura.

It also plans to open two stores in the shopping mall being developed by Taneja Developers this month. The group already runs more than half a dozen independent stores in the town and prides itself to be a house-hold name in the premium garment retail business.

Apart from the Bachoomal Group, the second major contender for space at the upcoming TDI mall is Dawar shoes, a premium footwear store chain of Agra.

But with the entry of multinational brands like M&B Shoes, Cantabil, Study by Janak, Status Quo, Catmoss, Liliput, Shahnaz Hussain, Gini & Jony, Numero Uno, Meena Bazar, Lapkok, Turtle and Moti Mahal Delux, most of which would be making their debut in Agra through the TDI mall this month, the local brand leaders are also preparing to face the stiff competition.

While the Bachoomal Group is planning to introduce a large variety of consumer products apart from garments through the “Bachoomal Departmental Store”, Dawar shoes will be cashing in on the low-cost reliability of the Agra footwear which it will present as a marketing strategy to counter the multinational brands.

Commenting on the tremendous response the Agra mall project had received from international as well as local brands, TDI (Director) Marketing Nitesh Kumar said Agra, being an important tourism destination, was a perfect place for mall development.

Apart from providing an international shopping and entertainment experience to the residents of the city, who usually went to Delhi to shop, TDI mall will also cater to the large number of tourists.
