Agra sensing changes in global footwear fashion

AGRA.          The international trends in footwear are changing fast these days with demand rising for fashionable footwear. The drab shades of “Blacks” and “Browns” are being replaced by patterned shoes with multiple shades.
To discuss the new demands of the Shoe retail segment in the international footwear market this winter, the Agra Footwear Manufacturers Chamber held a seminar on Shoe Retail Trends in hotel Holiday Inn of Agra recently in cooperation with Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), Council For Leather Export (CLE) and Indian Shoe Federation.
An exhibition of new varieties of leather and footwear accessories available in the international market was also held on this occasion. The launch of “pointed shoe soles” for the first time in the town remained the chief attraction of this exhibition.
Later, talking to the media persons on this occasion, Puran Dawar, Managing Director, Dawar Footwear Industries said that the “sporty” look was on a steep decline in the international market and the time had again arrived for “elegant” shoes among gents footwear. He said that by the turn of the next year, the elegant shoes would have fully replaced the sporty shoes on the top shelves of the footwear stores. Already, the changes have begun showing in the London market and soon they shall engulf the entire European market.
He said that the demands in types of leather has also gone through a major change that shall be reflecting soon in the Indian market too. Black and Brown shoes were slowly being replaced by multicolor prints and shades in leather and even in the soles, the demand for PVC and leather soles was declining while the newly launched pointed and designer soles were selling like hot cakes.
But he said, the scene was completely different among women as while in the European countries, women had begun demanding long boots as their all time favorites, the young ladies’ footwear market would be dominated by the sports shoes by the next year in India, though the sandles shall remain the preferred choice for saree-wearing women in the country .
He said that market research has shown that the Indian woman are lagging atleast four years behind the European women in footwear fashion, while men are just about a year behind.
