Agra Doc - Master of Surgery or Forgery?

Agra. For such doctors, treating patients is only a side-business. Barely a few months after the arrest of an Agra medico for selling psychotropic and narcotic drugs through a virtual drugstore on the internet, another Agra doctor has been tracked down by the police for committing fraud worth several crores in the name of stock trading.
Dr Anil Nigam, a resident surgeon in a reputed hospital of Agra, was arrested recently by the Agra police for funnelling money of investors from his brothers' stock-broking firm to a nursing home he was constructing for himself.
According to Inspector NK Yadav, Hariparwat police station in-charge, Dr Nigam was anonymously operating a stock broking firm, Rishab Share Securities, in which his brothers Abhay and Arun were his partners.
He said about three months ago, some investors who used the services of this firm complained to the police that the doctor had declared his firm insolvent and was refusing to return their money or the shares.
But when the police investigated the matter, the case revealed an interesting story. Dr Nigam, whose wife Vineeta is also a gynaecologist, worked as the resident surgeon in a reputed hospital of Agra but apparently the income from this job was not sufficient. This prompted him to start a project to construct his own nursing home near Agra Mental Asylum, where the medico couple could run their practice.

But desperately short of money for the project, Dr Nigam started up a stock-broking firm in the name of his two brothers, encashing his personal relations with other Agra doctors in bringing them into his net. Later, he funnelled funds worth over Rs 2 crore from this firm into the nursing home project but the investors, one of whom is at present a Dy Manager in IBP, caught wind of the scam and began demanding their money, which, the doctor refused, claiming the firm had gone bankrupt.

When the investors filed a complaint of fraud against the doctor, Dr Nigam went underground although his two brothers were arrested. It was only after almost three months of running from the law, that the doctor was arrested on Sunday hiding at the residence of his relative. Three cases of forgery have been filed against him and he has been sent to jail.
