TDI to build star hotel for Agra tourists

New Delhi/ Agra. Following the completion of its flagship project, TDI Mall, on the Fatehabad Road near the Taj Mahal in Agra, Delhi-based Taneja Developers and Infrastructure Ltd is planning to develop a star-category hotel about 3 km away from the mall.

“TDI Mall was the first project launched by the company in Agra and since it has been completed successfully, the company will begin developing the 125-acre TDI City,” said Nitesh Kumar, executive director (marketing), Taneja Developers and Infrastructure Ltd, at the inauguration of TDI Mall on Saturday.

The principal attraction of TDI City will be a 3-4 star category hotel the company plans to develop just outside the city to cater to the large number of Indian and foreign tourists coming to Agra, he said.

While he did not reveal more details of the hotel project, Kumar said the hotel’s architecture would closely resemble the blend of modern and heritage architecture used by TDI in its constructions.

Kumar said the mall had a 2 lakh square foot area on four levels that could be leased and a plot of 10,838 square yards, making it the biggest shopping mall to be constructed in Agra with the city’s only “Drive-in McDonalds” and national brands like Pantaloons and Rave Cinemas as its anchor tenants.

According to Kumar, though the shopping mall was formally declared as fully operational and open to public on Sunday, the 3-screen Rave multiplex, which would be the principal factor in increasing footfalls in the TDI mall, would only be operational by 15th May as the interiors of the multiplex were yet to be completed.

Answering a question over the shopper-profile targeted by the TDI Mall, Mr. Kumar clearly indicated that the Mall was meant solely for the up-market profile of shoppers and for precisely this reason, the company had refrained from leasing out space to discount store chains that could affect the business of the high-end branded stores by conducting “nickel & dime businesses” in the Mall.
