Price hike in dairy products in UP

Vishal Sharma   New Delhi/ Agra          The rising heat of summer has begun to show its affects on the prices of milk and milk products in Uttar Pradesh where the dairy units have raised the price of milk by Rs 2 per litre, while the rest of the products too have experienced a significant price hike that is expected to continue till the end of June this year. Parag Dairy, one of the largest milk producers of the state, raised the milk and milk products prices recently, claiming that the milk supply, obtained from the rural cooperative societies had decreased while the demand for milk was still high. Local dairy units that have entered the organized milk segment, including Bhole Baba Milk Food Industries Ltd, Ajanta Raj, KS Singhal, Milan dairy too are either contemplating to raise the prices of both indigenous food products like milk, curd, ghee and western products like milk powder, cheese, table butter and ice cream, or have already raised the prices claiming that the milk supply wa

Tidco faces probe in Agra

Vishal Sharma   New Delhi/ Agra.       Agra divisional commissioner Ashok Kumar has ordered an inquiry against Triveni Infrastructure Development Co (Tidco)—a subsidiary of the Rs 3,000 crore Triveni Group. Talking to Business Standard, Kumar said a large group of investors in this project had met him on Monday, complaining that they had invested several crores in the “Rangoli” project, launched by Tidco in 2004. A contract was signed by the company promosing them to deliver the completed houses in 18 months but the company had failed to deliver the housing units in time, completely shutting down the construction of the project in June last year. Now, when the investors were demanding back their money, they were being threatened that their allotments shall be cancelled if they took any legal steps. According to Kumar, it had been brought to his notice that a number of developers including the Sahara group, which had launched construction projects in the town were delaying the projects

Agra Univ VC surrenders in court, is released on bond

Nearly a week after receiving court summons, Agra University vice-chancellor Avtar Singh Kukla finally surrendered in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Agra, on Tuesday. Kukla is wanted by the Uttar Pradesh police in connection with the death of a university employee under mysterious circumstances two years ago. The employee was allegedly tortured severely by Kukla's personal secretary and bodyguard at his behest. Refused bail twice by the High Court, Kukla finally managed to obtain conditional bail orders from the Supreme Court, despite the UP Home Secretary and the state police filing an affidavit in the court charging Kukla with the crime. Attempting to surrender privately in the chamber of the CJM, Agra, Shamshul Haq, Kukla had to face stiff opposition from lawyers.

Agra varsity V-C surrenders in court

[TIMES NEWS NETWORK] LUCKNOW: After avoiding appearance for almost a week following court summons served on him on April 12, vice-chancellor of Dr BR Ambedkar University, Agra, Avtar Singh Kukla surrendered in the court of the chief judicial magistrate (CJM), Agra, on Tuesday. Prime accused in a criminal case, Kukla tried to surrender quietly, but owing to the vehement opposition by local lawyers, he was asked to go out of the chamber by CJM Shamsul Haq with the instructions to file his surrender application in the courtroom, where, Kukla was subsequently released on bail. As the V-C came out of the court room, his advocates formed a human shield around him to prevent newspersons from taking photographs. Kukla has been charged with torturing a university employee Manoj such an extent that he committed suicide on April 6, 2005. A case was registered against him. Feasibility study for Agra international airport

Vishal Sharma   New Delhi/ Agra            Six months after the Union Ministry for Civil Aviation approved the concept of Public-Private Partnership in the construction of the Agra international airport on the Agra-Delhi National Highway, the ministry has decided to finally conduct the feasibility study for the airport in the last week of April. According to the UP tourism ministry sources, the approval for the airport had been given by the union tourism minister Ambika Soni on 28 May 2006 and the minister had suggested that a feasibility study of the airport site be conducted without delay so that the project could move forward. On 3 September 2006, the Ministry of Civil Aviation discussed and agreed on a Public-Private Partnership model for construction and operation of the airport with the state, centre and private entrepreneurs as partners. National exhibitions planned in Agra to help cottage units

Vishal Sharma   New Delhi/ Agra       To provide a marketing platform to the local cottage units, the Union department of small industries has planned to hold a national industrial exhibition in Agra . The secretary for the small industries department, Chandrapal, said the exhibition will be held from April 17 to April 25 in which the cottage units of Agra, engaged in various businesses, especially footwear manufacture, will participate. He said the cottage units of Agra would be provided with an interactive platform with suppliers and industrialists from across the country in the exhibition, helping them secure orders while also making them aware of the countrywide requirements for their products. According to Chandrapal, the department was concentrating on the small footwear manufacturing units of Agra, which sometimes employing as less as five employees, still was managing to churn out a major part of the total footwear production of the town. Atul Polyplast launches room coolers in Agra

Vishal Sharma   New Delhi/ Agra.            Atul Polyplast, a subsidiary of the Agra-based Rs 250 crore Atul group of companies, entered the domestic appliances market last week with the launch of its room cooler range developed by the company in technical collaboration with Reliance Industries Ltd. Saying that the new Atul cooler range was the first cooler using the advanced “evaporative cooling system” developed by the company with the help of Reliance Industries Ltd, Sanjeev Mittal, Director, Atul Group added that the technology for the coolers had been specially developed to prevent the rise in humidity that was the inherent problem of all room and swamp coolers.
